Spring

Image
Spring has always been one of my favorite seasons. A short sleeve shirt and pants, to me, seems to be the perfect attire. Since winter is too cold and summer is too warm for such attire, it appears to be obvious why spring would be the superior season. :) The recent advent of seasonal (springtime) allergies, consisting of headaches and dizziness (from excessive ear fluid), has put a damper on my favorite season. But hopefully, I'll be able to find some remedies which can alleviate some of these drawbacks to beautiful spring. The lovely weather has lent itself to me increasing my bike rides. Riding the "video bikes" at the YMCA has been nice for the winter, but nothing can replace the invigoration of the wind blowing and the birds singing on a pleasant outdoor ride. Now that I'm over the aforementioned dizziness, I've had a recurrence of migraines. I had been migraine free since last summer, when my grandmother started praying for me. ...Until last Friday an

Tea party and crafts

Image
Last weekend, we found a tea set for Adrianna at a garage sale. On Monday, I came into her room at the end of her room play time, and this is how I found her playing. Without any previous direction, she set up a tea party for the two of us, with "chocolate chip tea." (Sounds yummy!) After lunch today, she told me she wanted to make a craft. I asked her what she wanted to use to make a craft ("Markers, crayons, paint..?"), and she came up with her own idea. She wanted to make a circle frame with dragonfly punches (so much for crayons!). Her ideas never cease to surprise me. She cut out a circle (after we traced a bowl together) and then cut out a traced oval. I was pretty impressed. :)

Anticipation

My dad, step-mom, Scott, Adrianna, and I just finished putting together a trip to Taos next week. I've been telling Scott for the last month that I'm dying to go somewhere. We've stayed home since Christmas, and that is seriously unusual for us! Scott loves traveling, and in general, I'm his trip-killer. Our usual conversations: Scott: "There's a Ding fare to _____ for only $_____!" Marianne: "Um, yeah. That's still a lot of money!" Well, this time, Scott started looking at vacation rentals, to see if it was even feasible. And we remembered that Debbie has wanted to meet up for a weekend trip somewhere in NM. And so a plan was born. I'm excited! To quote my mom, quoting my great-grandfather, "There are three wonderful parts of a trip: the anticipation, the actual trip, and the memories." Well, I'm enjoying part number one, so I'll hope parts 2 and 3 are just as fun!

Here are some of the promised pictures of the baby goats. One week later... look how they've grown!

Easter

Image
We had a quiet Easter. We went to church (temporarily meeting at an elementary school) and then had dinner at Adrianna's grandparents house. She's been enjoying the four new baby goats her grandma has. (Pictures as said cuteness will come soon.) For memory's sake, I have to put down some of the things she has said, or I will soon forget! Adrianna has been enjoying coming up with names for anything and everything. Some of my favorites she has said recently are... A name for a sandwich and candy shop: The Peanut Butter Jelly Bean A name for a spice company: It's Mint Thyme! When we were driving in the car yesterday (Monday, after spending the weekend having Dad home), Adrianna said, "Mom, we're lonely." "Why are we lonely, honey?" "Because Dad's not with us today."

The wait

We are two months into our wait for our new child. The waiting brings a yearning I never knew would be there. A yearning for my child's safety. A yearning for my child's needs to be met. A yearning to know when... and how... and what. A boy or a girl? A baby or a toddler? Cared for or neglected? We know many couples who are years into their waiting for their adopted child. How do they remain patient? Scott and I have complete trust that God will bring us the child He has chosen for us from before the foundation of the world. But I just want to meet him or her! Just out of curiosity, I looked up "wait" in the Bible. And boy, did those people wait. Noah waited for the land to be renewed after being stuck in a boat with animals for weeks. Abraham waited until he was an old man for his son. Job waited for his time of release to come (Job 14:14) after his days of hard service. Moses waited for forty years in the wilderness only to be reminded that his sin ma

Who knew cookie decorating could be so colorful? :)

Exceedingly abundant

Image
Ephesians 3:20-21 "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." No other words can capture this for me... "Exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask." I asked God to heal Rusty's ring worm. I prayed for him every day for several weeks (something I've never done for an animal before!), and God answered with more than I could imagine. Not only was his ring worm healed without a vet visit (as I blogged previously), but here's the update: His coat of gorgeous fur has grown back thicker and fuller than we've seen it in years. I thought I might be the only one noticing, but the other day, one of my friends studied him. She finally said, "Did you get him groomed or something? He looks so much younger." I don't want to get stuck on blogging about my dog (three en

Easter blessings

Adrianna knows how to be a girly-girl without any prompting. :) On Friday, she asked me if I could put curlers in her hair. So, here is our first attempt at curling her hair. She was so sweet while I was putting them in her hair. She said, "Mom, thanks for doing this for me." Awww. And here is how she looked after the curlers were removed. Saturday was a momentous day for our church. Everything was removed from our building so that it can be torn down. The new building stands so close to the old building that the old one has to be torn down before the new one can even be completed. And so Scott went to help the men move everything out of the church. After a long week already, I was a little nervous how Adrianna and I would fare with another slot of unplanned time together. Everything I thought of doing with her was either not so good for me (making Easter cookies) or not so good for my small house (going to garage sales). I decided to fill up our morning at home w

Completion and Frustration

Image
The good news: The new kids' room is complete!! The bad news: I've been feeling so crummy that I haven't been able to pull it together like I want to. I'll put one photo up so that all the hard work of the wainscoting can be appreciated. But I'll wait until I can do the finishing touches before posting before/after pictures. Last Friday, I started feeling yicky, only to realize that I was plagued with a fever (accompanied with body aches). As of yesterday, I still had the fever and the aches. Since I went through this in February as well, I'm ready to be done with fevers! I'm ashamed to say that yesterday was a very low moment in my three-and-a-half years as a mother. I felt so worn out and achy that I wasn't any fun to be around. And Adrianna let me know that, too. She used bossy words to me all morning. "Mom, carry me now... Mom, you need to go get that." That was hardly okay with me! But she started reacting to how I was acting,
