Strange day, continued

I think I ended my last posting too soon. What I meant to point out was that I have no doubt that those just happens were God's unbelievable provision for me. I have heard people say that there are no coincidences with God; of that I am confident! I am so grateful that He is willing to work, even when I can't seem to do anything right! My father-in-law even filled me in on another just happened . When I called him and he just happened to have his car key with him, he had just been able to turn on his cell phone two minutes previously, after leaving a non-cell phone section of his work. Pretty cool, if you ask me. :)

Strange day

Okay, so still no pictures with this entry, either. I just need to get out the details of my strange day so far. It all started at about 7:30 a.m., when Scott went to leave for work (45 minutes late), and his car wouldn't start. This is the second morning in a row, but the car seems to be this strange problem where it will randomly start sometimes, and not others. So, it started last night, he moved it into the garage, and figured it would start this morning. It didn't. I told him he could use mine again, and he said he would call his parents on his way to work, and see if they could lend us a car (they have two extras). Fast forward an hour and a half. Scott's mom pulled up in her extra car, I drove her back to her house (she had an appointment to get to), and Adrianna and I went to music time at the library. Fun times. Adrianna and I then went over to our nearby thrift store. There just happened to be a couch out front (almost identical to the little one we found

Memorial Day

**Images added June 6, 2009.** Well, for me, it's strange to start a blog without photos, but as we drove up to Frisco, I realized about four things that I forgot to pack. Two of the most important were Adrianna's favorite friend, Bunny, (without which she has not slept in three years) and -- as you might have figured out -- our camera. I can't really blame myself for Bunny: Scott and I saw Adrianna carrying her right before we got in the car, so we both assumed she came. But I can blame myself for the camera. Right before we left, I reminded myself to get it. Oh well! If I can get a copy of the Chesnut's pictures, I will try to post them soon. Words will have to be enough do describe our adventures. After lunch on Friday, Scott, Adrianna, and I set off. We met up with our friends and their two kids by the time we got to Alamosa. We had an uneventful drive to Colorado, stopping at Wild Bill's Hamburgers in Leadville for dinner. Apparently, the hamburgers we

Spring activity

We have had a few days warm enough to fill up Adrianna's pool to let her play. She's been asking, "When is it summer?" since March (she assumes that when it is summer, she gets to play in her pool). So when I filled up the pool for her last Thursday, she was so excited, she couldn't stay in one place. She flitted from the pool to the grass to watering the plants... And then came time to go inside. After an hour of water play, she was shivering, but didn't want to stop to take notice. Following many delay tactics, we dragged her in, and put in in a warm shower, only to hear, "But I wasn't done in the pool yet!" To relax and enjoy the weekend, we spent many hours remulching our yard... Okay, maybe "relax" doesn't describe it! But we had some lovely cool weather on Saturday, which lent itself to wonderful mulching temperatures. Adrianna and Scott spent an hour finding worms under the deteriorated mulch by our apple tree. We

Free Scoop Night

Image
Haagen-Dazs' Free Scoop Night was last night. And how could we not take them up on giving us a free scoop?? We met my in-laws there, and took advantage of the Haagen-Dazs generosity. :) I particularly enjoyed my Belgian chocolate delight, while Adrianna drooled over her raspberry sorbet. Since the store wanted to make a fun event out of the give-away, they invited a fire department to post a truck and firemen there to take a picture with all of us ice cream lovers. To rid myself of some of the lasting effects of the deliciousness, Adrianna and I met up with a friend and her son to hike the loop around the Pueblo ruins nearby. I'd like to think that carrying 40 pounds on my back for more than an hour made up for the ice cream... Let's hope! :)

Mother's Day

Image
Adrianna with me (Oct. 2005) Adrianna with me (Mother's Day, May 2009) I woke up yesterday, finishing up a dream about Scott and me going to Ethiopia to pick up our new child. During the dream, I was overwhelmed with the desire to take our child home. I woke up with the same desire, but also the renewed peace that we will be able to take our child home in due time. In the dream, our child was a girl (third dream I've had that we're getting a girl! But we'll see!), and right before it ended, Scott and I were trying to decide on a name. When I woke up to see Scott standing beside me, I quickly told him what I dreamed. The first thing he asked was, "What was her name?" ...It was a perfect Mother's day present. I was also treated with talapia for lunch (a Sam's Club meal that Scott prepared). We then went to see "The Music Man," presented by the 4th-6th graders from one of our elementary schools. We only stayed for part (it was 2 1/2 hou

Taos Adventure

View from the backyard of Casa Anna As I mentioned earlier, we had the chance to visit Taos last weekend. My dad and Debbie met up with us at a house (called Casa Anna), and we stayed three nights. It always amazes me how fast time goes when you are on vacation! The break from cooking and housework was wonderfully restful, and the location was joyfully serene. The house backed to meadows and foothills, and was one of the most peaceful places I have ever stayed. (The house itself had issues: windows not opening, water damaging walls, well water stopping, etc.!) But the location left nothing to be desired. We enjoyed our time swimming -- especially Adrianna, who discovered the confidence of arm floaties. And enjoyed the lovely galleries -- a birthday present is coming Debbie's way from a beautiful find there. We enjoyed the history at the 200-year-old Martinez Hacienda. And we enjoyed the restaurants -- yum from Bent Street Cafe (chicken cranberry salad) and Michael's
