Mission: Eradicate ring worm

Image
Beautiful, healthy Rusty Ring worm infested, sick Rusty (2 years ago) If a picture is worth a thousand words, these two should speak volumes. The comparison should hopefully explain more than my words ever could why I have been so disheartened that Rusty's ring worm has returned. What's worse than having a dog devastated by ring worm? Knowing that I gave it to him... twice. I struggle to conquer the ring worm that has returned to my arms every winter for the last 13 years. Poor Rusty has gotten caught in the middle of that battle simply because he likes to cuddle. Two years ago, it cost us more than $2000 to eradicate his ring worm. It spread like wildfire across a parched prairie because he takes steroids for his allergies. Apparently, steroids feed ring worm. Thus, the fear and anxiety when I noticed a bald patch on his leg last week. Two days later, six bald patches. Scott wonders if I should take Rusty to the vet. But I started treating him wi

Oh dear!

"Mommy, what do I smell?" has become a favorite question for Adrianna over the past several months. She has a little super-sniffer and smells things long before the rest of us do. And helping a three-year-old figure out how to use that question in the right context is more challenging than it would seem. So a few nights ago, at dinner, she asks her famous, "What do I smell?" I cough a little and say, "Gas, honey." She looks up, very serious, and says, "Is that dangerous??" How embarrassing.

Commenting

My kind sister informed me that my blog comment option was turned off. If you want to comment, it should work now (hopefully!). I'd love to know you've been here. :)

Do you know the muffin man?

This is our muffin woman for our preschool lesson on "The Muffin Man". Each kid got a chance to dress up and have the other kids circle around as we sang the song. Fun times!

"How do I pray by myself?"

Last week, we had my in-laws to our house as my dad and step-mom were visiting for the weekend. Adrianna had trouble falling asleep, as usual. I can imagine it's even harder for a three-year-old to fall asleep knowing that she has four grandparents so close yet so far away! I went into Adrianna's room when she started calling for us after an hour of trying to sleep. I kissed her forehead, fixed her blankets, and said something to her. Suddenly she looked straight up at me, and said, "Mommy, I don't know how to pray by myself." My eyes filled with tears. My baby wanted to know how to talk to God. On her own. I leaned over her, stroking her hair, feeling the immensity of the moment. "Sweetie, God wants you to talk to Him about everything. Tell Him what makes you happy. Or sad. Tell Him all the things you are thankful for. You can tell Him anything." I hope she never forgets my answer. I hope I never do, either.

So many blessings

Here's a quick picture of our precious one using her new computer... Now onto the blog. All I know is that I am so undeserving and God is so deserving of praise. I don't know why He blessed us so much, but I must tell about it -- not to boast of my possessions, but to give God the glory He deserves. After nearly six months of working on our dossier, it was finally ready to send off. The only problem? We needed a large check to send with it. We planned to sell one of our cars (we had three old ones) to help pay for adoption costs. However, we originally checked Kelly Blue Book over the summer, and since then, our cars' values dropped significantly. After praying about it, we decided that if we sold two cars, we could use the money for adoption costs and get a car loan for another car (essentially a loan to finance our adoption). And the rest is God's hand... Last Friday, we started preparing our cars for resale on our town's "Lemon Lot." Before we co

Where do I begin?

Wow, so here goes my first entry. This is intimidating. So last night as I was preparing for preschool at our house today, I came in from the garage, and Adrianna said, "Mom, I'm helping you get ready for preschool!" "You are?" "Yeah, I'm taking the pillows off the couch to the guest room!" "Thank you!" When she finished, she said, "Mom, what else can I do??" I said, "I don't know, but I'm so glad to have your help!" She said, "Yeah, it's 'cuz I love you, Mom." I felt like I had fed her words! What a gift!
