God's gifts from His divine healing

Psalm 139: "You knit me together in my mother's womb.  I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made!" Since the end of May 2012, I have been unable to sit without tremendous back pain.  I've spent the last eight months trying various methods for relief, all the while becoming more desperate, as we look to travel for hours on an airplane to bring our new son home from Uganda. Looking back, I can see now how God orchestrated His purposes to bring me to my knees before him.  It started with the drive to the first injection in November, when I could hear Him whispering in my ear that the injection would not bring my healing, and that He had more he wanted to do for His glory . It continued as the scheduler from my doctor's office called to reschedule my injection that I was supposed to have January 31 (already rescheduled from January 17 ).  I broke out in tears on the phone with her, asking for her help, explaining to her the urgency of my situa...

Gum grafts

I know others who have recently undergone knee surgery or other invasive procedures... My gum graft hardly ranks up there with those, but I do want to give credit where it is due. If you are wondering about my conclusion to my gum graft surgery (mentioned in "A Little Gripe), I want to thank God for His kindness.  My parents both had the same procedure done a few years ago, and warned me that the recovery was VERY uncomfortable. So, last Tuesday, when Scott drove me to the periodontist's office, I was a little nervous.  I'm not sure if being prepared for pain helps or hinders a situation...!  Thankfully, as the doctor had said, the procedure was over very quickly.  With only some high-dose ibuprofen, I went home in only minimal discomfort. Not eating solid foods for two days and not talking for those two days was more unbearable than the small amount of pain.  By the end of the first day, Adrianna seemed lonesome for her mom, even though she had been tryin...

To remember His work...

One of my purposes of this blog is to record God's hand in our adoption process, that in the years to come, we can look back on the entries (I hope to have them printed out) and remember God's provision. I suppose this might be the modern day method for building a pile of stones as a memorial for what God has done -- as the faithful did in Old Testament times. There is a story I have been longing to tell, to give God the credit. I just don't want to mess it up. I will attempt to tell it rightly now... The Monday after we got our referral, I checked in with our adoption agency about necessary paperwork. We were surprised to find out that we needed to have our homestudy updated. (Many pieces of the paperwork puzzle expire during the adoption process.) I instantly contacted our local social worker, who said she would put our paperwork in the mail for us immediately. Boy, was I frustrated. I had completed our paperwork so feverishly in the fall of 2008. And now I would ...

Scott's birthday

I left our trip story unfinished with my former entry... Saturday, January 2, we set out to return home. Scott and I had even had big "discussions" a few weeks ago about when we would return home. He was pushing for Sunday, and I told him I really wanted to come home Saturday, so that we could unpack and have time to get ready for the week ahead. Alas, he finally agreed, and so we packed our bags, loaded our car, and set out for home on Saturday, around 1:00 pm. We were leaving from my dad's house, and took 285, because of its proximity to that location. An hour an a half into our trip, we came out of the mountains into the South Park valley. It was not snowing, but as soon as we entered the valley, snow blew straight across from west to east. The road ahead of us was white; the car just feet in front of us was white. Visibility was a matter of inches. And to make it worse, the sun blazed through each ice crystal, creating an blinding glare. Needless to say, we w...
