Grandpa's birthday

Last night, we celebrated my father-in-law's birthday.  As we prepared for his birthday dinner, little did we know that Adrianna had a fever and Abel had an ear infection.  Even in her droopiness, Adrianna created a beautiful card for her Grandpa Steve.

Over the weekend, we bought a new booster seat for Adrianna to put in Scott's car.  As Adrianna climbed into the empty box after the seat was removed, we were reminded of times past, and her love for boxes. We decided it would be perfect to surprise Grandpa Steve with an Anna-in-the-box.

Sweet Adrianna got in the box as we saw Steve and Julie's car pull up, and stayed perfectly quiet as an unsuspecting Grandpa and Grandma took their time coming in.  We sent Steve over to "open his present," and with impeccable timing, Adrianna piped up, "Happy birthday!"  ...Okay, so Grandpa may have guessed a little someone was in there, but he played it out well!  And Abel had not realized that his sister had disappeared into the box, and squealed with joy as she came out.

Adrianna then took great joy in sharing her card and present with Grandpa.  She painted a wooden sign with a Copper dog on it for him.

What's a birthday celebration without a little carrot cake and ice cream?

Adrianna got to wrap up her night with story time with Grandpa and Grandma.
