Get away

One of Scott's favorite hobbies is trip planning.  Because of that, before Valentine's day, he saw that Southwest Airlines had another of their flights-so-cheap-they're-giving-them-away deals.  Last year, we took advantage of one of those to Phoenix.  This year, the deal was to Salt Lake City.  Scott's plan was to set up the trip, ask his parents to watch Adrianna for three days and two nights, and surprise me with the upcoming trip as a Valentine present. 

Unfortunately, I stole some of the thunder when I found the trip information in his email box before Valentine's day.  But, Scott still had a few cards up his sleeve, which I did not discover until a few days ago.

Last Thursday, we left for Salt Lake, only to arrive and drive to Ikea.  :)

This was the most picturesque Ikea location I have been to so far.  

From there, we drove on to our lodge.  This was the view as we drove up.  
I have been asking Scott for the last five years where and when we are going to use our Hilton points...  He finally decided this would be the place.  He saved the points for a location we would not normally be able to stay, and we felt truly spoiled.

His other surprises were a celebratory fruit plate, sparkling cider, and gift basket full of candles and samples from the on-site spa.  Such fun!

We shopped in Park City.
We also shopped at the outlet mall and enjoyed lunch at the lodge's restaurant.  It's too bad we didn't go for the skiing...  Apparently, they had just gotten loads of wonderful, fresh snow, and skiing conditions were perfect.  Alas, as our pastor says, "We can ski in heaven.  Where we won't get hurt!"

All in all, it was a wonderful trip -- a true get away.  And Adrianna seemed to have a lovely time with her grandparents (and got used to Mom and Dad being away for a few days -- like when we travel to pick up her brother!).

How wonderful! It looks so gorgeous--Scott even arranged for beautiful weather! I'm so glad you had this lovely get away in the midst of all your waiting and watching...

We are praising God this morning!  After two unsuccessful court dates, we passed court in Ethiopia today! And what verse should I read this morning, but Psalm 34:3... Brotherly love

For the two years we journeyed through the adoption paperwork and waiting, we wondered how Adrianna would adjust to the big sister role.  Almost five years with Mom and Dad to yourself is a long time for a kid to get used to being the only child.  Thankfully, God has been preparing that little girl for great things. Just last week, Adrianna and I had a precious chat at her grandparents' house.  "Hey Beautiful," I told her as she walked by.  "Did you know that you're beautiful?" I asked her.  "Yes.  You always tell me that!"  I picked her up, so that I could look at her in the eyes.  "Did you know what makes you beautiful?"  "Umm..."  "It's God shining through you," I explained. Teaching supplies

I have an inkling that teaching supplies do not spark a wide-eyed wonder in most of the readers of this blog.  I also have a feeling that most people would wonder why I "wasted" my time, staying up until 1:00 am on Friday night and working another three hours on Saturday morning to reorganize the aforementioned supplies. Well, teaching supplies do spark wide-eyed wonder in me -- always have.  And over the years that my supplies have been in my garage, they have gone through times where they have become very hard to reach -- through the layer of lawn mowers, ladders, strollers, spare chairs, and so forth.  The whole reason I have these supplies (and have added to them from garage sale finds over the years) is to use with my children and with children whom I teach.  Having all these goodies available while teaching Adrianna and her friends preschool over the last two years has been invaluable.   But it reached the point with my supplies where that layer in front of them was
