Cousin Adventures

Our week with Samuel
Monday: Mud puddles with play group

Tuesday: Bible Study and neighbor play
Tuesday morning, we had about an hour before my Bible study, when we saw our neighbors Jack (8) and Jenny (5) playing outside. We invited them over to play in our backyard, and within minutes, Jack and Samuel were climbing one of our trees to jump onto our shed's roof. (A little different than Jenny's and Adrianna's usual baby and dress up play!)
After rest time, we took Samuel over to see my mother-in-law's goats. He also enjoyed the swing set there.

Wednesday: Hike to Valles Caldera
Wednesday morning, beautiful weather lent itself to a wonderful hike in the mountains. We discovered dozens of teeny wild strawberries, and at the bottom of the caldera, butterflies abounded like flies.

Samuel and Adrianna particularly enjoyed rock climbing.

Thursday: Farmer's Market by bus
Taking the bus and trolley to town, Samuel turned to me, with the wind blowing in his hair, exclaiming, "This is fantastic!" Samuel and Adrianna got the usual farmer's market treat of honey sticks. This time they both chose root beer flavored ones. They got to play in the park at feed the ducks with a friend, while I tutored her daughter in the library.

Friday: Doctors' appointments, Adrianna gets sick, Samuel and Uncle Scott go to the Science Museum, Grandma and Grandpa arrive
At 7:30 Friday morning, right as we were trying to get out the door for our 8:00 doctor's appointments, Adrianna threw up. And then did so again, right after we left the doctor's office. We called Mom and Richard, who were beginning their drive here, to let them know about the yuckiness, and they agreed to come anyway.
While Adrianna took a long nap, Scott and Samuel rode the bus to the Science Museum. They would have made it home before Mom and Richard came, but they realized Samuel's water bottle was left at one of their stops in town. They retraced their steps, caught the bus home, and arrived right after our visitors.
For dinner, we celebrated Grandpa Richard's birthday with spaghetti (the kids' choice) and chocolate cake.

Saturday: Garage sales and Santa Fe
Though we determined to set out by 8:00 Saturday morning to conquer the local garage sales, we finally got out the door at 8:40. While we did not find any great treasures, we found a few kid's books, and two notable animals. Samuel bonded with a green and yellow frog, and Adrianna found a black bat (her favorite). The latter was later named Flappy.

We then set out for Cafe Paris in Santa Fe for lunch. We arrived at 11:00, only to discover that they serve breakfast until 11:30. The food arrived quickly, but while I was starving for lunch, the breakfast food of one strawberry crepe left me hungry for more! Cafe Paris is located in Burrow Alley. You will quickly see from where the name is derived. (Look closely, and you will see two aforementioned animals.)
